The Environmental Physiology and Toxicology lab is interested in how aquatic animals cope with environmental stressors and environmental change, either natural or man-made.
We study freshwater and marine organisms, primarily invertebrates and fish, and we allow the question or problem of study determine which experimental animal we choose to work on. A wide range of research is active in the Grosell lab, but the majority of our work involves marine fish and currently centers around four main themes:
- Salt and pH balance in marine fish
- Impacts of ocean acidification on marine fish
- Impacts of the 2010 Gulf of Mexico Deepwater Horizon oil spil
- Impacts of tracel metal homeostasis and toxicity on freshwater and marine organisms
